December 2 - Writing.

What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it?
(Author: Leo Babauta)

My biggest hurdle in getting this writing done is lack of focus.

I'm a huge multitasker.  I'm checking my email and writing notes to myself while on the phone.  I'm checking out facebook while watching a movie with my son.  I'm typing an email while having a conversation with someone at work.  I'm working on a document while on a conference call.  I'm constantly making mental to do lists and often find myself behind in a conversation or discussion in a meeting because I've tuned out to reassess such lists.

What can I do to eliminate it?  Be more present in the moment.  This has been a goal this year, but one I've failed at miserably.  The only thing I've managed to improve is recognizing when I'm doing it.  I guess this is the first step, right?  But as you can see from my response to Day 1's prompt, this is going to be a big life goal moving forward.  I'm worried I'm missing the moments, you know?  Those special little pieces of time with my son or my husband that I will treasure forever.

Being more present in the moment will help my writing in a multitude of ways.  Aside from being more focused to properly express a thought, I believe I will be more inspired by those moments to get them written.  I'll have a clearer mind to remember the details.  And we've all heard that multitasking ruins your short term memory, so by limiting my multitasking I'll have the memories better banked to recall them and document them.

I will be more present in the moment!
