December 14 – Appreciate What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it? (Author: Victoria Klein)

I started to write about being a mother.  But something about this prompt suggests to me that I need to write about something that I didn't appreciate as much last year.  Something that is newly appreciated.

If I look at it in that regard, I think it would have to be my "me" time.  As a working mother to a busy toddler, I definitely don't get a lot of it.  Add to the equation that I'm a light sleeper (and remember that busy toddler?) so a lot of my me time is searching for elusive sleep.  I get jealous of the fact that my husband stays up all hours of the night watching movies or playing video games.  He sleeps like the dead, so for him getting 6 hours of sleep is enough.  That and he rarely gets up before 7AM, but I digress.

This year I realized that crafting (scrapbooking, quilting, sewing, etc.) gives me a sense of accomplishment as well as a means of relaxation and decompression.  It gives me an outlet for creativity that was stifled before, and also a distraction from the stresses of the day.  It also gives me a reason to avoid laundry. :)

This year I started a new venture with my girlfriend.  We started an etsy shop and blog called "Did Someone Say Party".  Our shop sells party packs for various events (kid's birthdays, holidays, grown up get togethers, etc.).  We do various crafts for each piece - our goal is to give you a complete pack that will allow you to focus on your event.  OK, enough marketing. :)  The point is that we are able to individually complete various crafts as an organized outlet for that creativity.  And we give ourselves deadlines so I actually have to complete those projects!

How do I show appreciation?  It's top priority when that toddler is napping!
