reverb10 day 1

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

If you haven't checked out the concept over on #reverb10 I HIGHLY recommend you visit the site now.  The concept is to reflect on your year and manifest what's next.

Here's the prompt for today:
December 1 One Word.

Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you?
(Author: Gwen Bell)

My word for 2010 would be GROWTH.

2010 was full of change in my professional life, and I consider it change for the better (much better).  I was able to return to a consulting company that I loved (and had regretted leaving).  It meant less potential for higher salary, but it also meant a better quality of life.  There's no travel which means I get to come home to my family every single night.  That's a huge bonus for me.  It also meant moving back out of the corporate lifestyle and back into a smaller, more flexible office environment.  I'm super happy to be back with this company!

It was also the year that I started a new business venture with my girlfriend, Gretchen, which has been an incredible adventure.  We are still awaiting big success, but boy, are we having fun in the process!

Logan turned two shortly before the first of the year, and this year we really saw him blossom into a little boy.  I'm so sad that he isn't my little baby anymore, but his independence and growth has allowed me to carve out more time for me.  That's made a huge impact in my happiness and sanity!  It also means we get to do fun things like go to the library or have a nice breakfast at Starbucks just the two of us.
As for 2011, I'm targeting the word SIMPLIFY.  I know I put far too much pressure on myself to accomplish too much.  I also know that my excessive multitasking means I'm missing out on enjoying a lot of the simple pleasures in life.  I have far too many expectations of myself (and sometimes my family) that I am often too distracted to enjoy what we have.
I'd love to hear if you are going to participate in #Reverb10!  Please share!

  1. I saw this as well! Not sure I'm going to blog it, but will be playing along at home at least.
