favorite children's books - june

I thought it might be fun every month to do a series on our current favorite children's books.  We have a lot of wonderful books and go to the library often, so this will be a good record of Logan's favorites as well as give you recommendations on books for your kids or gifts for friends!

1. Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

My sister Kristen got Logan this book a while back (probably Halloween?).  It's always been in our rotation, but Logan is obsessed with it these days.  It's a fairly long story for a very little one, so I think now he's patient enough to sit through it (I'd recommend 2+).  I have to admit that I enjoy reading it too.  I think it's the rhyming and the clever story.  Definite family favorite!

2. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

I'm a bit embarrassed to say we had to check this out from the library because we don't own it! (Hint, hint to the aunties and grandma that spoil Logan with gift packages on random holidays!)  I also am a bit embarrassed to admit that I don't really remember reading it as a child and reading it for the first time with Logan felt like my first ever.  I haven't seen the movie, nor do I feel the urge to.  But we always enjoy the story together.  This is in our nightly rotation now.  Our friend's 7 year old was reading it to him the other night and he got impatient with her and pretty much recited the book from memory because she was taking too long reading it.  Seriously - word for word.  It was CRAZY!

3. Doodle Bites by Polly Dunbar

This is also a library favorite.  It's our third in the Tilly and Friends series (we also liked Good Night, Tiptoe a lot, but Hello, Tilly was just OK).  It may be our favorite.  It's short, the illustrations are adorable, and this one teaches a good lesson - it's NOT OK to bite your friends and it's not OK to stomp on your friend's tails just because they bit you (or something like that).   We might try another in this series in next library trip!

What's your favorite children's book?
